uvby - β Photoelectric Photometry of the Open Cluster α Per Absolute photoelectric photometry of stars in the direction of the OpenCluster α Per has been secured and is presented along with ananalysis reinforced with all the available data in Strömgrenuvby-β photometry compiled from the literature. Cluster membershipis analyzed and the physical characteristics of the stars have beendeduced. The membership determined in this paper is compared with thatof proper motion studies and Hipparcos.
| On the Red Edge of the δ Scuti Instability Strip The δ Scuti star catalogue is used to derive the observationallocations of such stars on the HR diagram. The theoretical andobservational instability strips are compared to check the theoreticalred edge obtained by considering non-local time-dependent convectiontheory. The observational instability strip almost overlaps with thetheoretical one, but the observed blue and red envelopes are hotter thanthe theoretical edges. The distribution of δ Scuti stars in thepulsation strip is not uniform.
| A study of correlation between the oscillation amplitude and stellar parameters of delta Scutis in open clusters. Toward selection rules for delta Scuti star oscillations In the present work, we study correlations between stellar fundamentalparameters and the oscillation amplitude for delta Scuti stars. Wepresent this study for a sample of 17 selected delta Scutis belonging to5 young open clusters. Taking advantage of properties of delta Scutis inclusters, we correct the photometric parameters of our objects for theeffects of fast rotation. We confirm the benefit of applying suchcorrections in this kind of studies. In addition, the technique used forthis correction allows us to obtain an estimate of stellar parameterssuch as the angle of inclination and the rotation rate, usually notaccessible. A significant correlation between the parameteri'(estimation of the angle of inclination of the star) andthe oscillation amplitude is found. A discussion and interpretation ofthese a priori surprising results is proposed, in terms of a possibleselection rule for oscillation modes of delta Scuti stars.

Commentsand statistics obtained from CADARS are given. The Catalogue isavailable in electronic form at the CDS via anonymous ftp tocdsarc.u-strasbg.fr (130.79.128.5) or viahttp://cdsweb.u-strasbg.fr/cgi-bin/qcar?J/A+A/367/521
| delta Scuti and related stars: Analysis of the R00 Catalogue We present a comprehensive analysis of the properties of the pulsatingdelta Scuti and related variables based mainly on the content of therecently published catalogue by Rodríguez et al.(\cite{retal00a}, hereafter R00). In particular, the primaryobservational properties such as visual amplitude, period and visualmagnitude and the contributions from the Hipparcos, OGLE and MACHOlong-term monitoring projects are examined. The membership of thesevariables in open clusters and multiple systems is also analyzed, withspecial attention given to the delta Scuti pulsators situated ineclipsing binary systems. The location of the delta Scuti variables inthe H-R diagram is discussed on the basis of HIPPARCOS parallaxes anduvbybeta photometry. New borders of the classical instability arepresented. In particular, the properties of the delta Scuti pulsatorswith nonsolar surface abundances (SX Phe, lambda Boo, rho Pup, delta Deland classical Am stars subgroups) are examined. The Hipparcos parallaxesshow that the available photometric uvbybeta absolute magnitudecalibrations by Crawford can be applied correctly to delta Scutivariables rotating faster than v sin i ~ 100 km s{-1} withnormal spectra. It is shown that systematic deviations exist for thephotometrically determined absolute magnitudes, which correlate with vsin i and delta m1. The photometric calibrations are found tofit the lambda Boo stars, but should not be used for the group ofevolved metallic-line A stars. The related gamma Dor variables and thepre-main-sequence delta Scuti variables are also discussed. Finally, thevariables catalogued with periods longer than 0fd 25 are examined on astar-by-star basis in order to assign them to the proper delta Scuti, RRLyrae or gamma Dor class. A search for massive, long-period delta Scutistars similar to the triple-mode variable AC And is also carried out.
| Pulsation behavior of classical Am star 60 Tauri Five nights photoelectric photometric observations through v and y bandsconfirm the pulsation of classical Am δ Scuti variable 60 Tau.Power spectrum of light curves shows multi-period pulsation behavior of60 Tau and two pulsation modes f1=13.0364 andf2=11.8521 cycles per day are definitely identified.Classical Am star 60 Tau is a complicated pulsation δ Scutivariable. Considering the pulsation constant Q, 60 Tau is identified tobe low overtone f or p1 modes tendentiously.
| A revised catalogue of delta Sct stars An extensive and up-dated list of delta Sct stars is presented here.More than 500 papers, published during the last few years, have beenrevised and 341 new variables have been added to our last list, sixyears ago. This catalogue is intended to be a comprehensive review onthe observational characteristics of all the delta Sct stars known untilnow, including stars contained in earlier catalogues together with othernew discovered variables, covering information published until January2000. In summary, 636 variables, 1149 references and 182 individualnotes are presented in this new list. Tables 1 and 2 will be accessibleonly in electronic form at the CDS via anonymous ftp tocdsarc.u-strasbg.fr (130.79.128.5) or viahttp://cdsweb.u-strasbg.fr/Abstract.html
| Amplitude investigation of delta Scuti variables in open clusters We report here the results of a statistical analysis of 28 delta Scutistars from five open clusters, alpha Persei, Pleiades, Hyades, Praesepeand Coma. These delta Scuti variables, most of which are on the mainsequence, tend to show a positive correlation between oscillationamplitude and absolute luminosity. No correlation is found betweenamplitude and effective temperature.
| The Pleiades and alpha Persei Clusters The upper-main-sequence members of the Pleiades and alpha Perseiclusters, considered as members of the Local Association, yield meanparallaxes that are only 4% larger than the mean values from Hipparcosobservations. The (log T_eff, M_V) diagram reveals that in thetemperature range from 6000 to 8000 K, the Hyades and alpha Perseimain-sequence members are nearly identical and several tenths of amagnitude brighter than similar stars on the Pleiades main sequence. Thedeparture of the Pleiades main sequence cannot be traced to either ageor heavy-element abundance differences in the range thought to apply tothese clusters. A 50% increase in the helium abundance of Pleiades overHyades stars could account for the luminosity difference. Alternativeexplanations are that the Pleiades cluster is rejected from superclustermembership and/or that the Hipparcos parallax results for the Pleiadesare in error by some 10%.
| Identification of new low-mass members of the Alpha Persei open cluster by ROSAT. I. Following the work of Randich et al. (1996) involving a ROSAT rasterscan survey of the alpha Persei open cluster, we present here theresults of a photometric/spectroscopic program examining the possibleoptical counterparts to a group of 73 X-ray sources in the raster surveywhich were not matched to catalogued stars. Of the 73 sourcesinvestigated, ~ 40 have an optical counterpart with photometryacceptable for cluster membership and ~ 20 of these also have radialvelocities consistent with membership. We discuss the X-ray propertiesof these potential new members and why they may not have been identifiedin earlier membership surveys of this cluster.
| CCD photometry of a delta Scuti variable in an open cluster. III. V 465 Persei in the alpha Persei cluster We present the results of real-time CCD differential photometry for thedelta Scuti variable V 465 Per. The observations were performed forthirteen nights between November, 1994 and January, 1995. Total 3345points of differential V magnitudes were collected during theobservation period of 76.4 hours. From the Fourier analysis, we havedetected four frequencies as follows; f_1=14.040 c/d, f_2=17.208 c/d,f_3=33.259 c/d and f_4=13.721 c/d. Two frequencies of 12.50 c/d and33.49 c/d detected previously by Slovak (1978, ApJ 223, 192) maycorrespond to our f_1 and f_3, respectively. For each frequency, pulsation constants of Q_1=0.0520+/-0.008, Q_2=0.0425+/-0.006,Q_3=0.0220+/-0.003 and Q_4=0.0533+/-0.008 were derived from severalobservational properties of V 465 Per. Only the value of Q_3 is found tobe within the range of theoretical p-mode oscillations and the otherones show large differences relative to the theoretical values. The highQ-values might be interpreted as the occurrence of g-mode oscillationsin V 465 Per, even though it can not rule out the possibility ofsystematic errors (Breger 1990; Delta Scuti Star Newsletter, 2, 13)related to rotational velocity.
| Metal abundances of A-type stars in three galactic clusters. Investigations have been carried out for 11 A stars in young openclusters (α Per, Coma, and Praesepe) and three field stars bymeans of high resolution spectroscopy. Detailed abundance analyses havebeen made for Mg, Ca, Sc, Cr, Fe, and Ni. The results are discussed inthe framework of element stratification processes as invoked bytime-dependent diffusion mechanisms in Am stars. The youngest cluster ofour sample, α Per, seems to show some untypical abundance patternswhich might be identified as early Am phases.

| The X-ray properties of the young open cluster around α Persei. We present ROSAT PSPC pointed observations of the 50Myr old α Peropen cluster. The X-ray observations, which were carried out as a rasterscan, cover an area of about 10deg^2^. In total, we detect about 160X-ray sources, 88 of which have an optical counterpart (within 30arcsec)associated with α Per cluster candidates. Within the centralregion of our field of view, which is characterized by a limitingsensitivity L_X_~10^28.8-29^erg/sec, we detect basically all late-F, Gand K stars, while the detection rate among the M dwarfs is on the orderof 60%. Given the sensitivity of our X-ray observations, the lowerdetection rate among the very low mass objects is consistent with theROSAT results obtained for the Pleiades cluster. Although stars in eachcolor range show a large spread in X-ray luminosity, the maximal X-rayluminosities appear to decrease from the range of late-F - G type starsto the M-type dwarfs. We interpret this as due to the fact that themaximum X-ray luminosity cannot exceed the saturation levelL_X_/L_bol_~10^-3^, and is hence a function of the bolometricluminosity. The availability of rotational velocities for many of theX-ray detected objects permits us to study correlations between rotationand X-ray activity. For B-V_o_>0.6, at a given mass, the weakestX-ray sources are slow rotators, while the strongest X-ray sources arerapid rotators. The relation between L_X_/L_bol_ and rotation we findfor the α Per low mass stars is the same as previously determinedfor low mass stars in the Pleiades, and a similar relation is found oncorrelating L_X_/L_bol_ with rotation period. Using directly measuredperiods as well as periods estimated from rotational velocities, wederive Rossby numbers (R_0_) for stars with B-V_o_>0.3 finding that awell-defined relationship between L_X_/L_bol_ and R_0_ is present bothfor early (i.e., F) and late-type stars. A comparison of the X-rayluminosity distribution functions (XLDF) for our α Per sample andthe Pleiades indicates that F and G-type stars in α Per are, as awhole, more X-ray luminous than their older counterparts in thePleiades. On the other hand, no significant difference is found betweenthe distributions of the K and M-type dwarfs in the two clusters. Weargue that this finding is a consequence of the longer spin-downtimescales of later-type objects, and hence of the fact that there aremore rapid rotators among G stars in α Per than in the Pleiades, while this is not the case for K and M dwarfs.
| Vitesses radiales. Catalogue WEB: Wilson Evans Batten. Subtittle: Radial velocities: The Wilson-Evans-Batten catalogue. We give a common version of the two catalogues of Mean Radial Velocitiesby Wilson (1963) and Evans (1978) to which we have added the catalogueof spectroscopic binary systems (Batten et al. 1989). For each star, when possible, we give: 1) an acronym to enter SIMBAD (Set ofIdentifications Measurements and Bibliography for Astronomical Data) ofthe CDS (Centre de Donnees Astronomiques de Strasbourg). 2) the numberHIC of the HIPPARCOS catalogue (Turon 1992). 3) the CCDM number(Catalogue des Composantes des etoiles Doubles et Multiples) byDommanget & Nys (1994). For the cluster stars, a precise study hasbeen done, on the identificator numbers. Numerous remarks point out theproblems we have had to deal with.
| A catalogue of variable stars in the lower instability strip. Identifications, positions, photometry, spectra, some pulsationalfeatures, other astrophysical parameters and literature for 302pulsating variable stars in the lower instability strip, near the ZAMS,are given. About 185 stars have near homogeneous photometric informationin the Stroemgren's uvby-β photometric system. Thiscatalogue/database covers information published until November 1993.
| δ Scuti stars: a new revised list An extensive and up to date list of δ Sct stars is presented. Thiscatalogue is intended to be a comprehensive review of observationalcharacteristics of all the δ Sct stars known until now, includingstars contained in earlier catalogues together with other new discoveredvariables, covering information published until November 1993. Globalinformation in the form of histograms and diagrams are also shown.

| Membership of low-mass stars in the open cluster Alpha Persei The results of a combined astrometric, photometric, and spectroscopicsearch for low-mass members in the intermediate-age open cluster AlphaPersei are presented. Over 130 low-mass new members have been identifiedto M(v) about 12.5, almost doubling the previous number of knownmembers. The new membership information suggests a slight upwardrevision of Alpha Per's age to about 8 x 10 exp 7 yr. Alpha Per isnoticeably spatially elongated in a direction parallel to the Galacticplane, most likely due to tidal deformation. Analysis of thedistribution of relative H-alpha emission strengths among Alpha Permembers confirms the view that the mean H-alpha strength decreases inincreasingly older systems. Allowing for survey incompleteness, onecannot reject the idea that the luminosity function is consistent withthe field luminosity function to M(v) about 9 or 10.

| Empirical P-L-C relation for Delta Scuti stars - A catalogue An extensive and up-to-date list of 192 Delta Scuti stars is presented.Empirical period - luminosity - color (P-L-C) relations are obtained forthe four lowest modes corresponding to radial pulsations. Agreement withpredicted values indicates that, in general, both Stroemgren photometriccalibration and pulsation theory work well for these stars.
| Population-I Pulsating Stars. VI - Ages of Star Clusters and Associations On the basis of our age estimations of Population I pulsating stars inour Galaxy (Tsvetkov, 1986a), the mean ages of 6 open star clusterscontaining 21 Delta Scuti-variables and of 8 star clusters andassociations containing 13 classical cepheids, have been evaluated. These mean cluster age estimations weighted according to theprobabilities for different evolutionary phases of the pulsating stars, are obtained in the evolutionary track systems of Iben (1967) andPaczyñski (1970); the cluster ages are larger in theformer system. Our results are compared with those obtained from variousmethods by other authors. Clusters with classical cepheids and withDelta Scuti-stars have ages, respectively, in the ranges 107_108 yearsand 106_109 years. It is shown that the use of simpleperiod-age(-colour) relations for Population I pulsating stars givessufficiently accurate cluster age estimations. By use of our period-agerelations for classical cepheids (Tsvetkov, 1986a), the mean ages of 56other star clusters and associations in our Galaxy, the MagellanicClouds, and M 31 galaxy have been estimated in both systems of tracks. The results are generally in agreement with those obtained from variousmethods by other authors. The use of Population I pulsating stars instar clusters and associations is one of the simplest and most easilyapplied methods for determining cluster ages; but there are somelimitations in its application
| Catalog of AP and AM stars in open clusters The previous results of Raab (1922), Markarian (1951), and Collinder(1931) have been used to catalog Ap and Am stars that are in the fieldof open clusters. Tabular data are presented for the clusterdesignation, the HD or HDE number, the right ascension (1900), thedeclination (1900), and the magnitude. Also listed are the spectraltypes and, for certain stars, the probability of cluster membership.
| Effects of rotation on the colours and line indices of stars. I - The Alpha Persei Cluster Analysis of the available observational data for the Alpha-Perseicluster members shows that rotation effects on the intermediate-bandindices c1 and (u-b) are considerable. In c1, rotation produces areddening of 0.040 magnitudes per 100 km/s. In (u-b), the effect for Bstars is found to be 0.06 magnitudes per 100 km/s of V sin i. Thebinaries and peculiar stars are found to behave differently in the colorexcess (due to rotation) versus V sin i diagrams. These empiricaleffects can be utilized to recalibrate these color indices and also toseparate members that are either chemically peculiar or in binarysystems.
| Chemically peculiar stars in open clusters. I - The catalog The largest existing compilation is presented of Ap and Am open clusterstars. The catalog contains information on 381 chemically peculiar (CP)stars of the upper main sequence in 79 open clusters. The catalog iscomposed of the following tables: (1) the main body, which lists CP (orsuspected CP) stars which are kinematical (or suspected kinematical)members of open clusters; (2) the list of CP (or suspected CP) starssometimes numbered among cluster members but which are actuallykinematical nonmembers; (3) the list of stars sometimes designated as'peculiar' but, in fact, probably not CP; (4) references for numberingsystems of cluster stars; (5) references for membership; and (6)references for spectral and/or peculiarity types.
| Photoelectric search for CP2-stars in open clusters. XII - Alpha Persei, Praesepe and NGC 7243 Observations of 95 stars in the open clusters Alpha Persei, Praesepe, and NGC 7243 have been performed by Delta-a photometry in order tosearch for the presence of the 5200-A feature of CP2 (or CP4) stars.Although peculiarity has been claimed for half a dozen stars in AlphaPersei, the photometry detects only the CP4 star (= He-weak) HL 985among the cluster members. The behavior of 3 Be/shell stars (HL 861,1164, 904) concerning the 5200-A feature is discussed. Praesepe, by farthe oldest cluster in the survey program, presents a very new andspecial case: 3 stars, previously classified as Am have Delta-a valuesaround 0.020 mag, i.e., they exhibit photometric peculiarity likeCP2-stars. Such values are incompatible with preceding results for fieldand cluster Am-stars (= CP3). These objects deserve further attentionboth photometrically and spectroscopically. NGC 7243 exhibits anoutstanding high frequency of CP2-stars; two certain Delta a-peculiarstars have been found: L 370, already known as peculiar, and the newlyidentified L 114. Two stars are near the detection level: L 58 and 121.According to Geneva photometry, L 487 is markedly peculiar.
| Quasi-160-minute oscillation period of Delta Scuti stars The resonance power spectrum (or commensurability spectrum) computed for217 Delta Scuti stars indicates that the dominant (most commensurate)period for the total set of oscillation periods of these stars is 162.2+ or - 2.8 min. Within the error limits, this period coincidesapproximately with the 160-min period of global oscillations of the sun.
| Population I pulsating stars. III - Period-Evolutionary mass(-colour) relations Evolutionary masses of Population I pulsating stars (89 Delta Scutivariables and 155 classical Cepheids are investigated in Iben's andPaczynski's systems of tracks. The evolutionary masses are larger in thelatter system than in the former. The uncertainty of the evolutionarymass of a star is estimated, when various evolutionary phases arepossible for this star (a smaller evolutionary mass corresponds to alater phase). Semi-empirical period-evolutionary mass-color (P-Me-C) andperiod-evolutionary mass (P-Me) relations are derived for various modes, groups of stars, color indices (and effective temperature), andevolutionary phases. For Delta Scuti stars, the uncertainty ofevolutionary masses calculated from the P-Me relations for differentmodes, is estimated. The improvement of the evolutionary mass accuracyis estimated, when a P-Me-C relation is used instead of thecorresponding P-Me relation. The theoretical and semi-empirical periodratios of radial pulsations derived from the P-Me relations for DeltaScuti stars, are compared. There is relatively good agreement betweenthe P-Me relations for the two types of Population I pulsating stars, but a 'gap' exists between them.
| Population I pulsating stars. II - Period-age (-colour) relations Ages corresponding to various evolutionary phases of population Ipulsating stars (89 Delta Scuti variables and 155 classical cepheids)are interpolated in the evolutionary track systems of Iben (1967) andPaczynski (1970). The stellar ages are considerably less in the lattersystem than in the former one. The undertainty of the age of a star isestimated when various evolutionary phases are possible for this star (agreater age corresponds to a later phase). Semiempiricalperiod-age-color (P-t-C) and period-age (P-1) relations are derived forvarious modes, groups of stars, color indices (and effectivetemperature), and evolutionary phases. For Delta Scuti stars, theuncertainty of ages calculated from the P-t relations for differentmodes, is estimated. Theoretical P-t-C and P-t relations for Delta Scutistars are obtained and compared with semiempirical relations (such acomparison of P-t relations is performed for classical cepheids too). The improvement of the age accuracy is estimated when a P-t-C relationis used instead of the corresponding P-t relation. The theoretical andsemiempirical period ratios of radial pulsations, derived from the P-trelations for Delta Scuti stars, are compared. There is relatively goodagreement between the P-t relations for the two types of population Ipulsating stars, but a 'gap' exists between them.
